Affording Law School

Widener Law Commonwealth is committed to putting an excellent legal education within your financial reach. We have worked to maintain competitive tuition rates, offer a generous scholarship program, and will assist you in taking advantage of every available form of assistance.

The law school seeks to maximize scholarship opportunities for all applicants.  Your application to the law school is your application for scholarship consideration.  All of Widener Law Commonwealth's scholarships awarded to incoming students are renewable provided the student remains in good academic standing. We encourage you to meet with a representative from the Financial Aid Office prior to beginning your legal education to receive loan counseling, including borrowing responsibly and reducing loan debt. Any student can also access Federal Student Aid’s website or speak with our Financial Literacy partner, AccessLex Institute, which provides a wide range of services.

For most students, an important form of assistance is loans, including those available through the William D. Ford Direct Loan program, which currently allows students to borrow the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. Students can always reduce or cancel their loans at any time. We recommend students review their account and evaluate the amount(s) borrowed each semester to make informed decisions about their educational loans.

The first step in the application process is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at fafsa.gov. We encourage new students to submit the FAFSA as soon as they apply for admission. Returning students have a priority filing deadline of April 1.

Students can check their financial aid status through myWidener after all necessary steps are completed and processed. Once accepted, the Admissions Office will send new students their login information via email. Once received, use the login instructions below to check your financial aid status.

  • Log-in to myWidener using your login and password.
  • Search for Financial Aid Award Letter.
  • Click icon to open task.

For additional information on resources and debt management, new students can review the forms and publications provided by the Financial Aid Office at sites.widener.edu. You can also visit the Financial Literacy section of our website for more detailed information.
