Following acceptance by the Admissions Committee, each applicant automatically receives the detailed instructions and forms required to apply for financial assistance. All financial aid applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Institutional Data forms. The FAFSA can be done online. Applicants who intend to borrow through the Federal Direct Loan Program must also complete a Master Promissory Note.
Financial aid for entering students is awarded on a rolling basis, and it is recommended that applicants for admission begin the process of applying for aid as soon after application for admission as possible. Each applicant is evaluated for aid only after all required forms have been received and the applicant has been formally admitted to Widener Law Commonwealth.
Returning students will be provided with an email containing the necessary links to start the application process. The priority filing deadline for returning students is April 1. Students whose Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) results and Institutional Data forms are received by the Financial Aid Office by April 1 will receive priority in the awarding process and in determining eligibility for Federal Work-Study funds.
The Financial Aid Office strongly encourages you to use to the Internet to complete your FAFSA. The FAFSA can be completed at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. You can access your renewal application by using the FSA ID that you created on https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. If you have not created or cannot remember your FSA ID, then you can create one on the same site. The Widener Law Commonwealth Institutional Data form can be downloaded from sites.widener.edu.
Students planning to enroll for a summer session and requiring financial aid must complete a Summer Intent form available in the Financial Aid Office or as a download. Those students attending summer school for the first time or studying abroad are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office to finalize their aid. Day or evening and phone appointments are available upon request. Students attending summer classes must indicate their requested summer loan amount on the Summer Intent form.
It is vitally important that students submit all required forms to the Financial Aid Office in a timely manner. Students are reminded to carefully read and correctly complete all financial aid forms. Failure to do so will cause delays in processing and may result in the loss of aid.
Transfer students are encouraged to simultaneously submit all required financial aid information and forms with their application for admission so that aid applications can be reviewed directly after admission. Please see instructions for new students.
Visiting students are not eligible for federal financial aid from Widener Law Commonwealth. Visiting students should contact the Financial Aid Office at their home institution to arrange for financial assistance. Widener Law Commonwealth’s Financial Aid Office is happy to complete a consortium agreement from the student’s home institution.
Widener Law Commonwealth students visiting another institution may elect to have their financial aid processed by the Widener Law Commonwealth Financial Aid Office by having the school they will be attending complete a Widener Law Commonwealth Consortium Agreement or in the Financial Aid Office. Students should review the Widener Law Commonwealth Consortium Policy. Financial aid will only be processed for students who have been approved by the Office of Student Academic Affairs. The Widener Law Commonwealth Financial Aid Office will process both federal and private financial aid for all eligible students.
