Law Certificate Programs
Widener Law Commonwealth's certificate programs offer you the chance to gain a professional edge through in-depth study in a single area of the law.
The certificate programs combine concentrated coursework with other valuable experiences, such as externships and clinics related to your chosen area of study. Each also offers a range of electives so that you can customize the certificate to suit your particular interests. These certificate programs are for enrolled Widener Law Commonwealth students only and are awarded upon graduation from the law school.
Administrative/Constitutional Law Certificate Program
Focuses on the government branches that together oversee administrative agencies and the balance of power between these branches, providing fascinating insights into the workings of the government. Offered by the Law and Government Institute.
Advocacy Certificate Program
Provides coursework and hands-on learning opportunities in civil, criminal, and administrative litigation and dispute resolution. The program is designed to position students for professional placements with the region’s district attorney and public defender offices, with public agencies that conduct administrative hearings, and with private law firms.
Business Advising Certificate Program
Focuses on an understanding of the many areas of law that affect owners of small and midsize businesses—including business organization and structure, taxation, business transactions, financing, and employment management. The program is an excellent credential for attorneys serving clients who are small business owners, and also lawyers who have their own entrepreneurial aspirations.
Environmental Law Certificate Program
Focuses on legal issues concerning the environment, energy, and climate change, preparing students to advocate, examine legal problems, and advise decision makers in the public and private arenas. Offered by the Law and Government Institute in conjunction with the Environmental Law and Sustainability Center.
Legislation Certificate Program
Focuses on the legislative process, including the drafting and interpretation of statutes. Provides opportunities to experience government in action through externships with the Pennsylvania legislature and other institutions involved in lawmaking. Offered by the Law and Government Institute.
Certificate application forms must be completed and submitted to the Registrar's Office no later than February 15. These certificates are for enrolled Widener Law Commonwealth students only and are awarded upon graduation from the law school.
Certificate Learning Outcomes
